Car Sound Deadening Mats and Sheets

Which Pack Size You Need

Four Sheets

0.64 square metres. A pair of front door skins, or one boot floor. This is the starter pack and the one most people buy first, because doors give the most noticeable change for the least work.

Twelve Sheets

1.92 square metres, supplied with a free roller. Enough for a car floor pan, or all four doors. If you are doing one job properly rather than sampling, start here.

Twenty-Four Sheets

3.84 square metres. A full cabin floor, all four doors and the boot, or the base layer of a small van or 4WD fit-out.

The Roller

Every sheet needs pressing down hard along its edges and across its whole face. A hand roller does this in seconds and does it evenly. The 12-sheet pack includes one. Add it to your order if you are buying any other pack size.

Where It Goes

PanelHow Much to CoverWhy
Floor pan100 per centThe largest panel, closest to the road, and the easiest to reach once the carpet is out.
Door skinsThe flat inner skin, behind the trimDoors are thin, unsupported and the closest hard surface to your ear.
Boot floor and wheel arches100 per cent of the flat sectionsRoad and tyre noise arrives here first.
Roof and side panelsSections in the centre of each panel, around 20 to 30 per centLarge panels drum in the middle. The edges are already braced by the structure.
FirewallThe flat cabin side, where you can reach itEngine noise comes through here.

You do not need full coverage everywhere. Mass in the middle of a panel stops it ringing. Mass on a braced edge does very little.

Sound Deadening and Heat Are Two Different Jobs

A sound deadening mat adds mass. An insulation layer adds thickness. They fix different problems and most vehicles want both.

Use the deadener on bare metal first. If you also want to keep heat out, add van liner foam or foil bubble insulation over the top, not instead. For heat coming off the exhaust into the floor, that is a heat shield job and no amount of deadener replaces it.

What We Do Not Sell

Kool Wrap does not sell a sprayable sound deadener. If you want a spray-on product, this is not the range. Our sheets are the self-adhesive kind, cut with scissors and pressed on by hand.

Before You Order

Measure your panels. Floor pans vary more between models than people expect and it is cheaper to order once. Call 1300 44 33 34 or email sales@koolwrap.com.au and we will tell you which pack fits your car.

Kool Wrap has supplied heat and sound protection in Australia since 1995. We ship Australia-wide with tracking sent after dispatch, from our office in Rowville, Victoria.
